Nervous Breakdown
Who is more prone to having a nervous breakdown, well in a manner of speaking every one I would say. Circumstance of how a person handles different situations can denote the more susceptible.
We all may have on many an occasion hear some one say “I think I am having a nervous breakdown”. How can they tell, well symptoms of any condition whether it be a mental illness or not will let you know. Some people found it hard to accept that a nervous breakdown could be connected to having a psychological or psychiatric problem and therefore chose to believe that they suffered with their nerves. Nervous breakdown is not a clinical term. A nervous breakdown is directed more towards disorders like that of panic disorder, panic attack, bipolar disorder, anxiety, traumatic stress, post-traumatic stress, psychotic disorder, depression, schizophrenia, mood disorders.
In a nutshell, independently of the specific mental illness, a "nervous breakdown" is a system overload. If a person has been diagnosed with one of the above mentioned illnesses an overload or shock can worsen the condition or make it more clear i.e. Schizophrenia or a mood disorder. If your body is of well being healthy and fit the system overload or shock can trigger and become one of the listed things (panic disorder or post-traumatic stress). No matter how much you keep yourself in shape if the mind is not functioning then it can affect your health severely.
Nervous breakdown’ is a lay term, not an official diagnosis so there’s no specific definition, and its meaning may vary. Society seems to use it as a catch-all term to describe an acute emotional or psychological collapse.
Signs of a nervous breakdown can be fatigue low energy, lack of motivation, anxiety, agitation, and insomnia, loss of appetite, guilty ruminations and feelings of despondency. Some conditions called nervous breakdowns are really episodes of major depression or a psychotic disorder of some type. Psychotic disorders are generally more closely related to genetic and biological factors, but depression influenced more by social and environmental issues.
